The very first NPC Fred O'Connell Award was awarded on the day, in recognition of innovative partnership work between schools and parents which supports children to have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Award was presented by Nan O'Connell Fred's widow, who attended with her son and Fred's sister.

The winner was the Parents' Association of Gurraneasig National School, Kilbrittain, Co. Cork.

In second place was the Action Team Partnership of St. Louis Girl's National School, Monaghan.

In joint third place were the Parents' Associations of Dunboyne Junior & Senior National Schools and Rathfarnham Educate Together National School.

13 Parents' Associations were awarded certificates of achievements for their entries to the Award, these were the Parents' Associations of:
