FÉILTE, the Teaching Council’s annual festival of education in learning and teaching excellence

Invitation to parents

FÉILTE, the Teaching Council’s annual festival of education in learning and teaching excellence will take place on Saturday 7 October in the RDS, Dublin.

The Teaching Council knows that teachers all over Ireland work extremely hard to ensure top quality learning experiences for their students and FÉILTE is all about sharing and celebrating this work with each other, with parents and with the wider public.

The Teaching Council wants to give a teachers a platform to highlight examples of innovation in teaching and learning and they also want to invite parents to attend so that they can enrich all discussions on the day with the unique perspectives that parents can bring.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Leading Learning for All’ and the keynote address will be delivered by Adam Harris. Adam is the founder and CEO of AsIAm.ie, an organisation working to build an Ireland where every person with Autism can “live and succeed as they are”. Adam established AsIAm.ie  based on his own experiences of growing up with Aspergers Syndrome.

The closing address will be delivered by disability rights campaigner Joanne O’Riordan.  Joanne, a recipient of the Junior Chamber International Outstanding Young Person of the Year award, is one of seven people in the world living with Total Amelia, a syndrome in which individuals are born without limbs.  Joanne or indeed her family has never allowed her condition to hold her back and has used technology to enhance her abilities in both her education and through the wider social environment.

As well as guest speakers, there will be a full schedule of events and attendees will be spoilt for choice with features including approximately 50 teacher-led showcases and 15 workshops highlighting examples of innovative teaching and learning methods;  a teachmeet, researchmeet and studentmeet as well as interactive panel discussions chaired by Keelin Shanley where parents, guest speakers, teachers and students will give their views on topics such as inclusive education and the pros and cons of homework.
