Mid-term fun

Mid-term has arrived and for children it is a fun time of the year. National Parents Council Primary would like to help you and your family make the most of the holidays by showing you some easy craft ideas to make.

Flip the pancake (memory game):

This can be a fun way for your child to practice their shapes, numbers, letters or words.

What you need

  • Some card (we used an empty cereal box)
  • Markers or colouring pencils.

What you do

  • Draw and cut out a number of circles (these are your pancakes), you can use a compass or the bottom of a tin can as a guide and be careful using the scissors.

  • Depending on your child’s development stage you can draw letters, numbers, shapes or for older children, you could even use words in another language.

  • Layout out the pancakes face down and shuffle them around.
  • Take turns flipping over the pancakes two at a time trying to find a match.
  • To practice their language skill, you could have your child try and say a sentence using the word they have turned over
