Summer Fun 2018 - Week 2

Summer Holidays have arrived and for children it is one of the best times of the year. National Parents Council Primary would like to help you and your family make the most of the holidays

How to make a Rainbow Spinner

You will need

  • 1 x CD/DVD
  • 1 x piece of card (approx. 15cm x 15cm)
  • 1 x A4 sheet of paper
  • 50cm of string
  • metal skewer
  • Some coloured pens
  • A Scissors
  • Glue

What You Do:

Use the compact disc as a circle template and trace out:

1 x cardboard circle and 2 x paper circles (Photo 2)

Now create a pattern on each white circle using pencils, crayons, markers, or paints; whatever you have handy. (Photos 3 & 4)

Glue your coloured circles to either side of the cardboard circle.

Carefully pierce two holes through the centre of the circle, using the metal skewer or a scissors (Photo 5)

Thread the string through one hole and back through the other to form a loop, and tie off the end.

To spin your disc, hold the string at either end. Spin the disc in large circles to get the string twisted up. Once the string is twisted, pull on either end and the disc should spin.

Watch how your pattern changes when the disc spins.
