NPC welcomes the Education Action Plan & Seeks a Commitment from Government to Follow Through With Resources

The NPC welcomes today’s publication of the Government’s first Action Plan for Education, led by the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD

The plan is ambitious in that it seeks “to make Ireland the best Education and training service in Europe”.

Áine Lynch, Chief Executive of the National Parents Council Primary, says: “this plan reflects NPC’s Vision to see an Ireland where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The strong focus on addressing disadvantage and embracing opportunity and innovation provide a strong basis for improvement for all children”.

Whilst NPC welcomes the Goals of the Strategy and the very specific outcome focus of the plan with clear deadlines for delivery, it remains concerned that the resources needed to realise the full potential and ambitions of the plan may not be available for its effective implementation.

The Action Plan certainly sets the right tone for the future of Education in Ireland over the next three years but it is vital that it is adequately resourced.
