NPC Primary Welcomes Minister's Announcement re: New Model for Allocating Resource Teachers in Schools

NPC Primary Welcomes Minister Bruton’s Announcement that the New Model for Allocating Resource Teachers in Schools will be implemented.

The NPC welcomes today’s announcement by the Minister that the new model for allocating Resource Teachers in schools will be implemented in September 2017 and that additional resources will be provided to ensure that it is implemented successfully.

Áine Lynch, Chief Executive of the National Parents Council Primary, says: “NPC has long advocated that educational need is used as the basis to allocate additional teaching support to children.  It is unfair that the current system allows that some children receive supports and others don’t, based not on their needs, but on their ability to access assessment and diagnosis.”

The new model for allocation of resources will set a more level playing field for all children and will remove the need to label children purely to access necessary learning supports.

NPC thanks the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and the Department of Education and Skills for its ongoing consultation with parents during the development of this new model.
