As children start back to school today, we advance into another year where the issue of child safety on arrival and dismissal of school has still not been addressed.
Following the Department of Education and Science decision to cut special classes in 119 schools around the country, NPC calls for full individual assessments for all the children involved and seeks assurance that all necessary supports will be fully implemented for this transition. These classes cater for children with mild learning difficulties in a separate setting and the Department has decided that these children will be educated in mainstream classes from September 2009.
